Dr. Arturo Valenzuela finally in his post as Assistant Secretary for State for Western Hemisphere Affairs

New Assistant Secretary of State Dr. Arturo Valenzuela

New Assistant Secretary of State Dr. Arturo Valenzuela

A number of previous posts have criticized the time that it has taken for the Senate to move on the nomination of my friend and colleague Arturo Valenzuela to be Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs– he was nominated by the President in May. There is finally good news. On November 5th, the Senate confirmed Dr. Valenzuela’s nomination by a voice vote, and he assumed office on November 10. Many, many congratulations to Arturo! He is exceptionally well-qualified for this position and, with so many pending issues, it is great to have him in office!

Below is a video clip from his confirmation hearing from earlier this summer.
